A new state-of-the-art BMX track has arrived at Casey Fields.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Geoff Ablett was joined by Member for Cranbourne Jude Perera on Sunday 25 February 2018 to officially open the $3.48 million project which also includes a new Sports Cycling Pavilion.
The BMX track has a five-metre start hill with electronic start gate, four straights of exciting terrain and timing system.
It also has floodlights which is a first in Casey, and meets state competition guidelines.
It will be used by the Casey Wolves BMX Club, South East Bicycle Association, and Casey Cardinia Human Powered Vehicle and Cycling Club.
The clubs have more than 500 registered members.
Council contributed $2.11 million into the project while the State Government put in $1.21 million.
The pavilion has large community space with an undercover viewing area, a paved spectator’s area, an office space, a first aid room, change rooms, public amenities, a kitchen and a registration room.
Cr Ablett said the regional BMX track was a first for Casey which was sure to attract more people to the sport.
“We’re proud to deliver this fantastic facility for our community, which is now home to Casey’s first ever BMX club,” he said.
“The custom designed Regional BMX track is of the standard to host state and national competitions, so we’re looking forward to hosting such events at our premier sporting hub, Casey Fields.”
Mr Perera said the Casey Fields Cycling Precinct was the top cycling venue in Melbourne’s south-east.
“The new pavilion finally gives locals the facilities they deserve – boosting female participation and helping clubs cater for growing demand.”
“Riders will come from far and near to use these new facilities,” he said.
Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) contributed $250,000 through the Community Sports Facility Program.
“Council thanks the State Government and SRV for supporting this great project, allowing us to get on with delivering it for our large and growing community,” Cr Ablett said.
