Adopt a pet this weekend

RSPCA Peninsula staff member Donna Blackman holds a two and half year old short-haired cat named Mona. The centre will be reducing their adoption fee this weekend.

Looking to find a furry friend to add to your home?
Around 1,000 dogs, cats, guinea pigs and rabbits will be available for the significantly reduced adoption price at all seven RSPCA Victoria animal care centres including Pearcedale’s centre from Friday 23 February to Sunday 25 February.
RSPCA Victoria is expecting to ‘Clear the Shelter’ this weekend with a $29 adoption fee for all animals for three days.
RSPCA Victoria CEO Dr Liz Walker said she hoped the promotion would move more animals into new forever homes.
“This promotion is all about finding homes for the animals currently in our care, and providing that extra incentive to people looking for a new pet to consider adoption,” Dr Walker said.
RSCPA Victoria did not put a number on how long an animal was in their care, she added.“We have some animals available for adoption that have been with us for almost a year.”
“We believe that pets belong in homes, not in shelters.”
Dr Walker said the $29 fee was nowhere near what it cost to prepare an animal for adoption but added “if we can get hundreds of pets into permanent homes then that’s a really worthwhile investment.”
The usual adoption procedures will apply during the Clear the Shelter promotion to ensure each animal is matched to the right family.
All adoption animals are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, health and behaviour checked.
Pearcedale’s RSPCA Peninsula animal care centre is located at 1030 Robinsons Road, Pearcedale.
