Yoga ahoy!

Australia’s first in-pool aqua yoga program at Casey RACE is set to make a splash this month.
YMCA Victoria and the City of Casey will partner to launch a pilot aqua yoga program at Casey RACE on 13 November.
Six Boga Fit mats or ‘Aquamats’ have been imported and supplied to Casey RACE and an instructor also flew to the USA to undergo a training course in October.
The pilot program will feature come-and-try 45-minute aqua yoga classes run over a four-week block, with a view to inclusion of the classes as a permanent fixture of the YMCA’s Group Fitness program.
Casey YMCA Area Manger Barry Harrison said access to information and results of the programs already in place internationally was a key benefit of being part of a world-wide health and fitness organisation.
“The YMCA is an industry leader in aquatics and recreation, so we are able to research new classes and activities first-hand and then implement programs that are proven successful on the basis of real evidence. This is something new and we are excited to be the first to launch Aqua Yoga in Australia,” he said.
“We are proud to regularly offer something new to our Casey community members and guests.”
Measuring 2.4 metres by nearly a metre, the Aquamats can handle bodyweight up to 180 kilograms.
Mr Harrison said Aquamats allowed the aqua yoga classes to have maximum benefit in building strength and flexibility while improving balance and co-ordination.
