Sex assault charge

By Brendan Rees

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged an 85-year-old man following an alleged sexual assault on a city-bound train on the Cranbourne line.
Investigators have been told a woman was sexually assaulted on the train on 11 October.
The Hughesdale man was charged on Thursday 19 October with sexual assault and bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 8 December 2017.
Investigators were told a woman in her fifties was travelling on the train, shortly after 9am.
It is alleged the man, who had boarded the train just prior to the woman, sexually assaulted her.
Following the incident, police say he got off the train at Richmond Railway Station and caught another city loop train.
