Year Seven students from Lyndhurst Secondary College played a piano tune and shared the life stories of senior community members during a visit to Lifeview Willow Wood aged care facility in Cranbourne.
Students were warmly welcomed at Willow Wood on Monday 4 September.
Lyndhurst Secondary College Claire Clancy Community Engagement Officer said the students were great and residents enjoyed their company.
“There were smiles all round as the residents enthusiastically played traditional wooden rope quoits and cards with Year Seven students.”
She said some were happy to just sit, chat and enjoy the company of each other while one resident supported student, Aleiah in playing an old favourite tune on the piano while “she affectionately sang along.”
The community project, initiated in July by Lyndhurst Secondary College teacher Sue Carroll, was now well underway and students were benefiting from these positive engagement activities.
“It’s heart-warming to see these beautiful interactions with young and older people as it shows a real appreciation of life, compassion and respect. One volunteer commented that it is wonderful to see the residents so active and engaged; it is lovely to watch,” Ms Clancy said.
“Thankyou to all residents and staff at Lifeview Willow Wood. Lyndhurst Secondary College students will be returning for more fun and games later this month.”
