Guide to graceful ageing

The City of Casey’s annual Ageing Positively Festival will run again throughout October, offering more than 100 events and activities to inspire, connect and entertain residents aged 55 and over.
Held each year in conjunction with the Victorian Seniors Festival, the festival is a celebration of Casey’s older residents and their ongoing contribution to the municipality.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz encouraged residents aged 55 and over to check out the program and get involved.
“This year’s Ageing Positively Festival will kick off with an official opening and expo on Monday 2 October, featuring a talk from swimming icon and Olympic champion Dawn Fraser and a range of health and lifestyle exhibitors and demonstrations,” Cr Aziz said.
“There are more than 100 other activities and events, information sessions and opportunities for older residents to join in, meet new friends and learn something new.
“You might like to learn some helpful self-defence tips, get moving with some Zumba, line dancing or table tennis or exercise your creativity by taking part in a calligraphy, pottery or mosaic class.
“There’s also some great information sessions covering everything from the latest hearing technology and using an iPad to healthy breakfast options, as well as events where you can just head along for a meal or cuppa and meet new people.”
Cr Aziz said council was proud to celebrate the valuable contribution of senior residents throughout this festival each year.
“Council is committed to promoting and actively encouraging positive attitudes towards and among our over-55s population.
“The Ageing Positively Festival is one way in which council celebrates our older residents and works to ensure they feel valued, supported and connected in their community.”
Ageing Positively Festival Official Opening will start Monday 2 October at 10am to1pm at Lynbrook Community Centre, Corner Lynbrook Boulevard and Harris Street. Free entry. Check out the full list of events during the Ageing Positively Festival at www.casey.vic.gov.au/ageingpositively or request a copy of the festival program from City of Casey.
