The newest Casey Youth Action Committee (CYAC) has been announced, with 24 young residents taking on the issues that affect the wider community.
Council held a ceremony at the City of Casey Civic Centre on Monday 31 July to welcome the members onto the committee.
The CYAC allows young people in the Casey community a say in what matters to them and helps to direct and inform council policy.
Members will take the lead role in identifying issues of importance and developing relevant strategies for the 12 months they serve on the committee.
City of Casey Mayor Sam Aziz presented the 2017-’18 CYAC members with their badges and congratulated them on their appointment.
“You should each feel incredibly proud tonight,” he said.
“Your leadership, passion and insight are highly valued and council is looking forward to working with you all.”
Cr Aziz said being part of CYAC allowed young people a chance to develop critical skills and gain knowledge that would help them in the future.
“We hope that the CYAC will empower you to take your place in the community,” he said at the ceremony.
“Through the committee, council seeks to develop your social and political awareness and your understanding of the context in which council decisions are made.”
