Lightning hits power

By Victoria Stone-Meadows

A lightning strike caused widespread power outages in Cranbourne over the weekend, when the SP Ausnet Cranbourne substation was damaged.
The power provider confirmed that lightning hit the substation at about 1.15am on Sunday 28 May, leaving about 2900 customers without power.
A spokesperson from SP Ausnet said crews worked hard to restore power to those affected.
“Our crews worked as quickly as possible to safely restore power to homes and businesses, with most back on by 5pm Sunday,” they said.
“A generator has been installed to provide power to the remaining 10 customers, while further repair work is conducted.”
“We are sorry for any inconvenience this outage caused.”
