Anzac spirit lives

By Jenna Hutton-Murdoch, Former Alkira Student

The Anzac spirit was revitalised through the younger generation on 24 April, with Alkira Secondary College’s senior VCAL students participating in commemorative ceremonies at Tulliallan and Hillsmeade primary schools.
Through their education of the primary school children, the senior students have ensured that the Anzac legacy will be remembered and respected by all generations and students were proud to represent Alkira Secondary College and the Anzac memory.
Alkira VCAL students Maddi and Katie said: “It was exciting to be able to pass on the knowledge we have gained over our time working on this project to these amazing young students.”
Senior pupils organised these separate ceremonies and paid respects through personal poems and letters which Year 6 PLT Leader from Hillsmeade Primary School Matthew Moore, thought were brilliant.
Alkira Secondary College holds an annual ceremony to remember and acknowledge the contributions of the Anzacs and all servicemen and women.
Expanding the ceremonies ensures that the Anzac memory and the values it represents continue to thrive in the minds and actions of the younger generation.
