HILLCREST Christian College took the opportunity to promote mental health to its students during Mental Health Week earlier this month.
Hillcrest’s main focus was on their hard-working VCE students who are preparing for their final exams.
“With all the pressure and studying, their mental health is paramount,” said Michelle Nye, director of the Discovery Centre (DC).
“This whole week, we have given the students tools and exercises to deal with stress and anxiety.”
Perhaps the most exciting event occurred on Wednesday,12 October when rescue dogs from Forever Friends Animal Rescue in Pakenham paid a visit.
Volunteers from the animal rescue brought some lively dogs during lunchtime for the VCE students to enjoy. There was lots of belly rubs, patting and excitement ‘on hand’ for the foster dogs.
“The students seemed to immediately de-stress and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the canine company,” said Germaine Moser, a discovery centre teacher at Hillcrest.
Students also learnt about the benefits of adopting and fostering pets from the volunteers at Forever Friends Animal Rescue.
