KNIFE-WIELDING carjackers stole a bogged car with an empty fuel tank in a bungled Cranbourne West robbery.
Detective Senior Constable Lisa Hollingsworth hopes CCTV footage will help to identify those responsible for the Saturday 28 May incident.
She said a 22-year-old Frankston man was sitting in his Mitsubishi Challenger in Morningside Boulevard, Cranbourne West.
The Southern Metro Regional Crime Team member said that a man approached about 11pm, held a knife to the victim’s throat and dragged him out of the car.
The victim ran to a nearby house and called police.
Sen Const Hollingsworth said the car was bogged at the time and nearly out of fuel, so the thieves used snatch straps stored in the Challenger’s boot to free it from the mud.
They used a Toyota LandCruiser, which was also stolen, to push the Challenger to a nearby service station, on Evans Road.
The fuel pump was not turned on so one of the men ran inside.
At this point some of the victim’s friends, driving a white Mitsubishi Pajero, came across the Challenger and approached the carjacker.
He threatened to stab them before fleeing the scene in the LandCruiser, which he later dumped nearby.
Sen Const Hollingsworth said at least two men and a woman were involved.
She urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
