Breakthrough in commercial burglaries

By Georgia Westgarth

THE Casey Crime Investigation Unit has tracked down two offenders in a special probe into commercial burglaries.
Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Clark told the News a significant investigation into a series of burglaries at businesses across Casey has paid off with two arrests.
“The burglaries have been occurring over the last two months in Casey as well as the outer eastern region,” Det Clark said.
“Two people were arrested in the early hours of Saturday 10 September, by the CIU and canine unit.”
Det Clark said the pair were arrested while committing an aggravated burglary at a bakery in Scoresby.
A 22-year-old female and a 28-year-old male were arrested at the scene.
Search warrants were subsequently executed at a residence in Noble Park and a large quantity of stolen property was recovered.
The male was interviewed and charged with multiple counts of burglary and aggravated burglary.
“A sawn off double barrelled shot gun was also located at the Noble Park address,” Det Clark said.
The female offender was charged with aggravated burglary and released on bail.
The male perpetrator was remanded in custody, and will be released on Thursday 15 September.
Det Clark said the pair had committed very serious offences, and inquiries were currently being conducted into other alleged offenders.
“We’re investigating in excess of 50 aggravated burglaries and burglaries, mostly commercial burglaries, businesses,” he said.
