Cat adoption day

THE Lost Dogs Home’s mobile pet care unit is heading to Cranbourne for its first-ever pop-up cat adoption day.
The mobile pet care unit, MADI (Microchipping, Adoption, Desexing, Information), will house a number of cats and kittens looking for new homes. Adoption fees will be halved on the day, bringing the adoption fee for an adult cat down to $47.50 and a kitten (less than six months old) down to $90. All cats and kittens are desexed, microchipped and vaccinated, which is included in the adoption fee.

  • The event will take place on Saturday 30 July, from 10am to 4pm, at the Lost Dogs Home in Cranbourne West.


Open Art Day

MAKE, see and do at Heritage Hill Open Art Day, part of Cultural Threads.
Visitors can take a heritage tour, see the All Her Thoughts are Tactile installation by Thea Jones, and create their own pieces.

  • Heritage Hill Museum and Historical Gardens, 66 McCrae Street, Dandenong. Sunday 7 August, noon to 4pm. Entry is a gold coin donation.


Make-up squad

In the 60-minute sessions participants will experience a professional consultation followed by an immaculate make-up styling overhaul and learn tips and techniques.

Venation in art

FIVE contemporary Australian artists explore the veins of histories and customs in this exhibition, though photography, tapestry and printmaking.
Venation refers to the arrangement of veins, as in a leaf or in the wing of an insect.

  • Walker Street Gallery and Arts Centre, corner Walker and Robinson streets, Dandenong. From 4 to 27 August, 11am to 5pm weekdays and 11am to 3pm Saturdays.


Seussical The Musical

SACRED Heart Girls’ College, with Salesian College Chadstone, will present this Dr Seuss musical about an elephant, his friends and adversaries, an abandoned egg and an irresponsible bird.

  • Drum Theatre, corner Lonsdale and Walker streets, Dandenong. Friday 5 August, 7pm, Saturday 6 August, 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are $5 for children aged under six years, $16 concession and $22 for adults.


Alex Wilkie Nature Reserve

DISCOVER the natural beauty of Alex Wilkie Nature Reserve at open days held every Friday and the third Sunday of the month. Take a picnic and wander the grounds to view a variety of flora and fauna. Park rangers are available for guided tours.
