Heritage school aims for bright future

CLYDE’S new primary school will honour the history of its surrounds in its name.
The public private partnership (PPP) school currently goes by Heather Grove Primary School but the name Wilandra Rise Primary School has been endorsed by the local reference group.
School principal Tina Clydesdale said the name was chosen with the local community in mind.
“Wilandra was a prominent homestead that was built for a well-known Clyde family who cultivated the land into market gardens, and made significant contributions to the area,” Ms Clydesdale said.
“We think this provides a perfect opportunity to bring history together with our vision for the future, being one that prides itself on learning from the past to build a much brighter future.”
The Prep to Grade 6 school will open in January 2017 and will incorporate an early learning centre.
Ms Clydesdale said the school would also provide a community space for the public, which will be managed by the YMCA, including after school care.
“The Selandra Family and Children’s Centre is also in operation adjacent to the school site,” she said.
“This facility is an integrated hub comprising kindergarten, early childhood education, multi-use community rooms and maternal health services.
“Master planning for the new school, including location of the school entrance will ensure smooth transitions between primary school education and the Selandra Family and Children’s Centre.”
Wilandra Rise Primary School is one of 15 government schools being delivered across some of Victoria’s fastest growing metropolitan and regional communities in the coming years.
“The school has been designed to cater for learning in the 21st century,” Ms Clydesdale said.
“Its buildings are modern, bright and have been designed to allow for flexible learning in a variety of spaces.”
Queries about the school can be directed to Ms Clydesdale at clydesdale.tina.m@edumail.vic.gov.au.
