Free trees, no fees

CASEY residents can claim two free plants for their garden and help create a greener city as part of the city’s annual plant giveaway.
Between Thursday 19 and Saturday 21 May 2016, council will have pop-up stalls at Westfield Fountain Gate, Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre and Endeavour Hills Shopping Centre where Casey residents can collect two indigenous plants per household.
City of Casey Mayor Sam Aziz encouraged residents to take up the offer, with council hoping to give away 10,000 plants across the three sites.
“Council holds this popular giveaway each year as part of our Growing a Green Web Program, which aims to revegetate open space and link corridors of indigenous vegetation to form a green network across our municipality.
“The plant giveaway is one way the community can get involved and contribute to creating a greener city.
“I encourage residents to head along to council’s pop-up stalls and collect their free plants; there will be a variety of plants available to suit a range of gardens including trees, shrubs, ground covers, wildflowers and grasses,” Cr Aziz said.
Pick up your free plant at Westfield Fountain Gate (near Ted’s Camera Store) on Thursday 19 May between 9am – 5pm, Friday 20 May between 9am – 5pm, Saturday 21 May between 9am – noon.
At Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre (in front of the Commonwealth Bank) on Thursday 19 May between 9am – 5pm, Friday 20 May between 9am and 5pm, Saturday 21 May between 9am and noon.
At Endeavour Hills Shopping Centre (in front of Noni B and the food court) on Thursday 19 May betweem 9am and 5pm, on Friday 20 May between 9am and 5pm.
Plants are limited so arrive early to avoid missing out. Residents must bring proof of Casey residency such as a driver’s licence or council rates notice.
