SOUTH-EAST musicians have come up gold.
Three of the region’s most talented performers were picked for Melbourne radio station, GOLD 104.3s, ‘Build-A-Band’ competition and one hailing from Cranbourne.
The Jo and Lehmo show asked listeners to, quite literally, build them a band to perform at their Pure Gold Live concert, at the Palais Theatre on Friday 13 May.
And Melbourne chose wisely.
Dubbed ‘Band of Gold’, the group is made up of five musicians, and includes a Pakenham guitarist, Cranbourne bass guitarist and a drummer from Cockatoo.
Cranbourne’s Brendan Parsons was voted the best man to play bass guitar by GOLD’s listeners.
The 27-year-old warehouse worker told GOLD’s Jo and Lehmo that “music is everything” to him.
“Can’t imagine not playing music. I have recurring dreams of being on stage and my stuff not working and it happened.”
Rikki, the only female band member, had her first drum kit at age 12.
The 24-year-old warehouse worker from Cockatoo told Jo and Lehmo she’d practice on her mum and dad’s pots and pans as a youngster.
She told the station, “It means everything to me – all I want to do is play music – I think about it every day all day.“
Pakenham lead guitarist, James McGrath, was also lucky enough to grab a spot in the rock band.
The 21 student, who loves classic rock, told GOLD 104.3 that he hasn’t had much experience performing live on stage.
But the chance to jam live at the Pure Gold Live concert “would be a life ambition experience.”
Votes were tallied over the course of several weeks.
