Picnic time for kids

BY JARROD McALEESE

CASEY youngsters were treated to a picnic held at the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens on 5 May as part of National Family Day Care week celebrations.
The function saw 65 local children and educators gather at the Woodland Picnic Area, and attendees were entertained by the dreamtime stories and didgeridoo playing of cultural educator Ron Murray.
Family Day Care Australia chief executive officer Andrew Paterson said events such as the one organised in Cranbourne were a fitting way to acknowledge family day cares and their role in nurturing the growth of children in the community.
“National Family Day Care Week provides an opportunity for services, educators and families to come together and celebrate the important role family day care plays not only in their community, but in shaping and supporting the lives, hopes and dreams of hundreds of thousands of children around the country,” Mr Paterson said.
In the lead-up to the day, a Family Day Care Australia spokesperson said they were pleased to be able to offer a free get-together for families in the Casey area.
Family day care services and educators are hosting various events and activities around the country, and this free community picnic forms part of the celebrations.
