THE state budget has delivered $9 million to upgrade Cranbourne Secondary College and principal Ken Robinson has plans for the school to become the best educational facility in Casey.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera made the funding announcement on Thursday 22 April to an ecstatic Mr Robinson, with the cash to go towards a science, technology and arts wing.
“It’s fantastic, we are a school of high need in general mental and physical health and wellbeing and I think our school needs an amazing facility to support the community,” Mr Robinson said.
“I’m hoping we’ll be shovel ready by the end of this year.”
The injection will compliment $1.4 million, the school was delivered by the Federal Government, a part of the Cranbourne Regions Education Engagement Model Trade Training Centre in 2013.
Cranbourne Secondary College is expecting a “construction wing” a part of the combined trade training model, which will be open for use to other local schools.
“Plans haven’t started on the trade training centre yet, but with the additional funds it will seam into the new project and will mean we’ll have a comprehensive technology and building and construction centre,” Mr Robinson said.
“Also part of the new building we will be delivering support and mental health services, social skills work, career pathways and learning enhancement – because we have a lot of students come in not ready for secondary school.”
Incorporating access to an onsite general practitioner is also currently in discussion between Mr Perera and Mr Robinson.
“Hopefully one day we can get a GP service one to two days a week on school grounds, we have many students who struggle with access to medical services, in some cases parents are ineffective,” he said.
