A HAMPTON Park family had a lucky escape early Sunday morning when a runaway caravan narrowly missed their home.
Police are trying to locate the owner of the large caravan, which they believe may have been stolen.
The caravan, which is 35 feet (10 metres) in length, consists of four separate bedrooms and a shower block.
Police believe the van became unattached from its towing vehicle and travelled about 100 metres before smashing through a front fence and coming to rest meters from a family home on Pound Road.
Police are trying to identify the owners of the van, believing that it may have been stolen.
Investigators have released an image of the caravan in the hope that someone may recognise it.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report to www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
