PEARCEDALE Primary School student, Zahli Cousins-Earle, couldn’t wait to cut her waist length golden blonde locks off, in fact she was counting down the days to her big chop.
It’s the first time ten-year-old Zahli has participated in the World’s Greatest Shave and a chat with her mum Carolyne Cousins about cancer was all it took.
“One of my friends had a cancer scare and I was discussing the different types of cancer you can get with Zahli when she decided to donate her hair to be used to make a wig for cancer patients,” Carolyne said.
Zahli had her mind set on raising $100 but has ended up with more than $1100 with the help of Pearcedale Primary School, who watched on as Carolyne cut Zahli’s hair at a recent school assembly.
“She was so emotional about it,” Carolyne said.
“Not because she was losing her long hair, but because of the cause – she couldn’t believe she could raise so much money.”
Zahli has been eagerly waiting the special day for more than a month; her long plaited ponytail is still sitting in a zip lock bag and will be donated to Variety or those specialising in wigs for alopecia sufferers.
