A VICTORIAN police crackdown over the Christmas period caught 443 drivers breaking the law on Casey roads.
As part of Operation Roadwise, police with back-up from the TAC saturated Casey, with 17 State Highway Patrol units and six booze buses dotted throughout the region.
From 13 December to 3 January, Casey police caught eight drink-drivers, 21 drug-drivers, 29 people using a mobile phone behind the wheel and 24 disqualified drivers.
However most of the fines went to speeding drivers – with Casey police charging 179 people over the 22 days.
Unregistered vehicles almost made up a quarter of the fines with 100 tickets issued and 43 unlicensed drivers were caught during the blitz.
Twenty one drivers were seen not wearing a seat belt while driving and 18 people were caught disobeying traffic controls.
Before the monster operation, Cranbourne’s Acting Senior Sergeant Pat McGavigan told Star News that it was Casey’s number one ranking in Victoria for high trauma that led to the big road task.
“We have funding through the TAC for additional patrols, that’s how much of a risk Casey is,” he said.
