Plan change is good for business

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

THE Hampton Park Development Plan has been amended by Casey Council over concerns about the Hallam Road landfill.
Following consultation with local residents, the council adopted the revised plan at a meeting last month with amendments regarding the immediate concerns of a business and landowner in the direct surrounds of the Hallam Road landfill.
The two parcels of land, at 735 South Gippsland Highway (Diaco’s Nursery) and 825 South Gippsland Highway, Hampton Park, had previously been identified in the plan as “future public open space”.
The amended plan now designates the land for commercial use.
“The amendments to the plan provide certainty for commercial operations which have for many years been undertaken on the two parcels of land, which were previously designated for future public open space,” River Gum Ward councillor Damien Rosario said.
“In reviewing the previous plan, we have concluded that this open space is surplus and have now amended the development plan to allow ongoing certainty for the current and future operations of commercial businesses at the site.”
