Centre named after historical estate

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

SOME of Clyde’s architectural history will be appreciated for years to come with a proposed new shopping and business hub to be named after the St Germain Homestead.
The National Trust-listed estate in Clyde North was the inspiration for naming the area’s newest activity centre a part of the Thompsons Road Precinct Structure Plan.
The ‘St Germain’ centre is set to deliver a health and business sector including supermarkets, speciality retail shops, restaurants, childcare facilities, a gym and office space.
Casey Mayor Sam Aziz said it was a fantastic link to the old Clyde and ward Councillor Geoff Ablett said the activity centre was just what the growing area needed.
“St Germain estate is set to deliver a new health and business precinct to support 8900 jobs and a residential community of about 6100 new homes over the next 20 years,” Cr Ablett said.
The old homestead is located on McCormacks Road in Clyde North.
