THE Cranbourne Scots’ Presbyterian Church – one of the region’s oldest buildings – will celebrate 160 years of worship in November.
The day of history and blessing will be held on Sunday 15 November, with a thanksgiving service at 10am.
The Cranbourne church will be turning back the pages on the day by delving into its history.
Reverend Peter Roberts said churchgoers were responsible for helping to build the township of Cranbourne all those years ago.
“Not only were we the first church to open in Cranbourne, Alexander Duff who was the minister at the time opened Cranbourne’s first primary school also in Sladen Street,” Rev Roberts said.
After selling off a lot of the church’s land and making way for developments, Rev Roberts said it was nice to see the Duff family still around town.
“The reality is the Duff family and the church did a lot for Cranbourne – they were pinnacle in its growth.”
Since the relatable ‘rev head’ minister joined the church five years ago the congregation has grown from 10 people to 80.
“I urge everyone to come down, past and present members to help re-join the historic links, on the church’s anniversary,” Rev Roberts said.
Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria, the Right Reverend Mark Smith, will be guest speaking at the anniversary event.
