AN “ACCELERATED” rollout of the NBN is being promised to more than 100,000 households and businesses in Melbourne’s outer south-east by September 2018.
Under the new construction schedule Blind Bight, Cannons Creek, Kooweerup, Tooradin, Warneet and parts of Cranbourne North, Narre Warren, Narre Warren South and Lysterfield will be hooked up by the end of 2016.
La Trobe MP Jason Wood said there will be fixed-line – and some wireless – services coming to “neglected” areas in Casey and Cardinia.
“When Malcolm Turnbull came down as Communications Minister we listened to the electorate, and now it’s great to be delivering NBN to areas that were neglected by the Labor Party in the past.
“The release of the plan is a huge step forward for the NBN as the company works to speed up the rollout and make the build as cost-efficient as possible.”
In the next year, parts of the Dandenongs, Nar Nar Goon, Officer, Pakenham Upper, Cardinia, Clyde North and Devon Meadows will also be online.
The network plans to service 9.5 million premises around Australia and Flinders MP Greg Hunt said he hopes the roll out will provide peace of mind for residents.
“In this era, where we rely on the internet for everything from paying bills to completing further study, having fast and reliable internet is imperative,” Mr Hunt said.
