FOR the past three years the Lynbrook Residents Association (LRA) has been pushing the City of Casey to take action on Kingsfield Reserve’s vacant land – and they’ve finally got an answer.
A playground for the Lynbrook reserve has been accounted for in the council’s 2016-’17 capital works program.
LRA president Christopher Morgan said $50,000 had been budgeted for the long-awaited playground.
“I don’t know how far $50,000 will go but overwhelming response from locals has been really positive,” Mr Morgan said.
The land, located at Aylmer road and Elliot Parade in Lynbrook, is surrounded by homes and was made suitable for a playground with the installation of bollards along the roadside in 2013.
“When the bollards went in it gave us more confidence to pursue council, because they had no excuse not to look at the land for a possible playground,” Mr Morgan said.
With the closest playground about one kilometre away at Banjo Paterson Park, Mr Morgan said it was a win for the growing community.
“There’s a lot of new construction in the estate and a lot more people that are living further out, so it’s fantastic news to hear that a wasted piece of land will be used in this way,” he said.
The funding is still subject to budget approval and design of the play area has not yet started.
