Lanterns light the night

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

DUSK was the perfect time of day to release the floating lotus flower lanterns which set off the Lynbrook Lake Lantern Festival in a spectacular fashion.
In its fourth consecutive year, Lynbrook Residents Association (LRA) president and festival organiser Christopher Morgan said about 5000 people attended the community lakeside picnic.
“Sadly none of the photos really do justice to the staggering number of people that attended,” Mr Morgan said.
“It has grown steadily year on year and we are doing less and less advertising but pulling in more and more people.”
With CFA on-site hundreds of lanterns were painted by youngsters and released into the sky and onto the Lynbrook Lake with Casey Mayor, Cr Mick Morland also present to take in the breath-taking sight.
With entertainment, craft and picnic blankets dotting the lakeside festival Mr Morgan said he was 10 minutes away from cancelling the whole event.
“It was hands down the best event we’ve ever run – but we were so lucky the weather held out,” he said.
Lanterns were removed from the site the following morning by LRA members.
