CRANBOURNE police were “amazed” and “touched” after being presented with gift ‘survival kits’ by a group of Girl Guides.
Senior Sergeant Phil Atkins said some police officers were “quite emotional” when they received the 50 kits – and some complimentary guides biscuits – from Cranbourne Dolphin Guides this month.
“I was blown away with what the kids have done. They’ve put such a lot of thought into it.”
The kits contain survival items – each with a thoughtful meaning – such as bubbles to blow away worries, matches to light when feeling burnt out and lollipops for when officers’ day sucks.
The guides also wrote personal notes of thanks and included a shiny star to show they appreciated the officers’ work.
Most of the kits have taken pride of place on the recipients’ desks.
Cranbourne police presented certificates of thanks to the girl guides on Tuesday morning, 22 September, and there are plans to give them an insider’s tour of the station in coming weeks.
Guides member Isobella said the group wanted to thank police for “helping us and keeping us safe”.
“We give them things that show we think about them.”
Sen Sgt Atkins said his members were “chuffed” because such positive community feedback was in short supply.
“It’s a job in which you face confronting circumstances, high amounts of stress and life-threatening risks,” Sen Sgt Atkins said.
“Receiving feedback and messages from the public such as these really do help us recognise that what we do makes a difference.
“It certainly did take us by surprise and brightened our day.”
