A CRANBOURNE resident awoke to watch their car being driven away by a stranger in the early hours of Monday 10 August.
The thief entered the home in Murray Court, Cranbourne, at 2.30am and stole car keys and a wallet containing credit cards.
The cards were used at a convenience store in Camms Road, Cranbourne West, shortly after the theft, but the transaction declined.
The unknown offender then proceeded to run out of the store with the items they attempted to buy.
The stolen car has since been located, and police have released images of the man who, they believe, can assist with their inquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Casey CIU on 9705 3114 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
