LYNDHURST Vikings are no more.
A change of venue – from Endeavour Hills’ Barry Simon Reserve to the newly created Carlisle Park in Cranbourne – has also brought a change of names.
The Vikings will now sail under the Carlisle Park banner as they begin their 2015-16 West Gippsland Cricket Association (WGCA) campaign later this year.
The name change was put to the club recently at and the verdict was to start afresh at their new home.
Carlisle Park Vikings Cricket Club president Aaron Straughair said with the blessing of club founders the current club members decided it was time to adapt to the new surroundings.
“We spoke to people who started the club and asked their opinions and they were happy if we changed it,” Straughair said.
“Put it up to the club a couple of weeks ago, had a couple of people who were iffy on it – but mostly everyone was pretty happy with it.”
“All pretty happy with it – so we thought it would be easier to get into the community if we changed the name to Carlisle Park.
“Setting up a meeting with the primary school next door to form a partnership and get more involved in the community – especially starting juniors as we believe we can attract more with the new name.”
It brings to an end the Vikings’ time in Endeavour Hills – having played at Charles Green Reserve, Gleneagles Secondary College and finally Barry Simon Reserve for the last decade or so.
The club also announced the signing of new head coach Peter Neville – who arrives at the club with a wealth of indoor and outdoor cricketing experience, having previously been involved with Baxter Cricket Club.
Carlisle Park Vikings will host two Junior Registration Days Friday 21 August and 28 August from 430-730pm at Cranbourne Indoors Sport Centre.
