Subway targeted

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

THIEVES are targeting Subway fast food eateries in Casey, with a Cranbourne store the latest to be hit.
Since May Subway outlets in Narre Warren, Hampton Park and Dandenong have all been broken into and their safes robbed.
It comes as the Cranbourne Subway on the South Gippsland Highway was hit about 5am on Wednesday 8 July.
The offender smashed the back window of the store and attempted to force open the safe but fled empty-handed when the alarm was triggered.
A crowbar was left behind at the scene and seized by police.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Darron Hedge said there had been a number of Subway robberies throughout metropolitan Melbourne this year, including the four in Casey since May.
“They tend to be high level burglaries,” he said.
“We’ve responded to some before and we’ve charged people in the past but whether it’s the same people, we don’t know.”
It’s understood some of the other Subway store robberies involved ram-raids and the thieves managed to take a quantity of cash.
“They’re not stealing sandwiches,” Det Acting Sen Sgt Hedge said.
Police have released CCTV images captured during the Subway robbery in Cranbourne.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
