JAMES Harmes’s AFL dream as been realised, with one of the south-east’s favourite footballing sons having been named in the Melbourne side to take on Essendon tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.
Harmes, 19, originally from Devon Meadows, was promoted to the Melbourne Demons’ senior AFL list on Thursday morning.
The former Dandenong Stingrays/Devon Meadows midfielder was promoted on the back of his stellar efforts with the Casey Scorpions.
His 26 possessions and 12 tackles performance in the cold, wet conditions on Saturday – in the Scorpions’ 48-point win over Geelong – sealed his passage onto the Demons’ main list and into the side for his first AFL match.
Talking at a training session at Casey Fields on Thursday, Melbourne coach Paul Roos confirmed Harmes had earned his promotion and the opportunity to make his debut.
The Demons clash with Essendon at the MCG on Saturday from 1.40pm, while the Casey Scorpions will take on Port Melbourne on Sunday afternoon at Casey Fields from 2pm.
