TAFE cash flows for jobs

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

CHISHOLM Berwick is set to benefit from a $2.9 million State Government funding boost.
Training and Skills Minister Steve Herbert visited Chisholm’s Berwick campus on Monday to confirm the funding, which will be spread across the Chisholm campuses from the Andrews Government’s $50 million TAFE Back to Work Fund.
Mr Herbert said the funding would go towards job training programs at Berwick Chisholm, organised through partnerships with local industries.
He said the training would also support employers who planned to hire staff as part of the Government’s Back to Work Scheme, by creating more job-ready skilled workers in growing industries.
The Back to Work scheme provides financial assistance to businesses if they hire unemployed young people, retrenched workers or the long-term unemployed.
The Back to Work Fund forms part of $350 million allocated to the Victorian TAFE system in the 2015-’16 State Budget.
“We’re supporting Chisholm to provide training that gives people the skills they need to get a job in growing industries like construction, healthcare and engineering and the emerging vinyl design and application field,” Mr Herbert said.
“We’re investing in our TAFEs to produce workers that will help us innovate, create new products and drive jobs and growth.”
