Bogan screen diet

WHY do Village Cinemas, Fountain Gate give little or no airplay to certain arthouse movies and British dramas? This issue I discussed with an employee at Village Cinemas at Fountain Gate in relation to the movie “Far From the Madding Crowd.” I was informed by that member of staff that this particular movie was not “a Narre Warren thing.” I wondered what was meant by “a Narre Warren thing.” Is the comment akin to racism? A type of defamatory statement and generalisation made about my suburb? I walked away with the impression that only young uneducated, working-class bogans and their families chose to live in this area. If that is the case certainly there is little point in showing anything of educational value to such an illiterate mob of heathens! To all those workers at Village at
Fountain Gate I have a Master’s Degree in Renaissance Studies and live in Narre Warren. Surprising, isn’t it?
Yet I am not prejudiced. Plenty of people would like to see good quality movies irrespective of who or what they are. No-one needs to fit a certain mould to appreciate art. The attitude of Village at Fountain Gate is disgraceful. They may deny this comment was ever said but the movies they decide to screen say it all. I urge people in the local area to apply more pressure to Village Cinemas to screen a broader variety of films.
Why should the elderly, pensioners, and the disabled be forced to travel long distances just to watch a heart -warming movie that they want to see? Of course if I wanted to watch a violent movie I would be swamped for choice.
Adrian Karpish,
Narre Warren.
