Refugee courage combines

THE contribution of refugees to the Casey community will be celebrated later this month.
Casey Council will host the annual Refugee Week Forum on Wednesday 17 June, together with the Refugee Council of Australia, the Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre, Monash Health and South East Melbourne Medicare Local.
Refugee Week in Australia runs from Sunday 14 to Saturday 20 June.
This year’s theme is ‘with courage let us all combine’, and serves as a call for unity.
Casey Mayor Mick Morland said the initiative encourages all Australians to welcome refugees and to acknowledge the skills and energy they bring to their new home.
“The ultimate aim of the week is to facilitate better understanding between different communities and encourage successful inclusion in the community, enabling refugees to live in safety and to continue making a valuable contribution,” he said.
“Council hosts this forum each year to gain a better understanding of the current situation regarding refugees and asylum seekers.“
Speakers from national and regional services which provide health and wellbeing support to refugees and asylum seekers will be presenting at the event.
To register for the forum, contact Casey council on 9705 5200.
