Charged with criminal damage

A CRANBOURNE man, believed to be under the influence of drugs, has been charged after he smashed all the windows at a rental property where he was staying and had to be subdued by police using riot shields.
Police were called to the Cranbourne rental around 9pm on Wednesday 12 May where the 43-year-old tenant had allegedly smashed all the windows and furniture at the property.
But the officers were then forced to wait for the arrival of CFA crews after it was discovered the man had turned the gas on inside the house.
Once the gas was turned off the police, including members of the Operations Response Unit, entered the property and subdued the man with riot shields.
A Cranbourne police spokesman said it was believed the man was allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
The man was arrested the following day after a brief stint in hospital and later charged with criminal damage.
He was bailed to appear at Frankston’s Magistrates’ Court in August.
