STUDENTS from a local high school will be miles ahead of others in the area their age with the imminent launch of a new program.
The community at Lyndhurst Secondary School is excited ahead of the launch of the ACE program next year, the academic curriculum enhancement program.
Transition co-ordinator Lisa Williams said the program would allow for a separate class for high achieving students and form an entirely separate curriculum.
“The idea is that from Year 7, it won’t be about accelerating but expanding,” she said.
“It’s more self-directed learning at a higher level.”
Ms Williams believed that the only other school nearby with a program like this was Elizabeth Murdoch in Langwarrin.
“We are one of few in the area,” she said.”
“It’s pretty exciting and it will be a big year.”
Ms Williams said it would be a whole new pathway from Year 7 through to Year 12, with a focus on ensuring students get the most out of their schooling.
Students will be able to begin doing VCE subjects by Year 10, which will minimise the amount of subjects they will have to do during Year 12.
“It’s about maximising their chance to get into a tertiary course,” she said.
She said families must have their high school preferences in by May with a testing date at Lyndhurst Secondary College for the ACE program on 16 May.
“Families must submit applications by the end of April,” she said.
She said that anyone who would like more information should contact the school.
