HAMPTON PARK BOWLS
ON A very noisy green with plenty of encouragement, history was made on Saturday as two Hampton Park teams had home finals. The Parker’s bowlers going one better as both teams won.
Division 2 played a determined Mordialloc for the right to play more finals. It was only a seven-shot win but the last two end results were the same as when the two clubs played in Round 14.
Warwick Hardy and his team, Steve Barnes, Chris Hendrie and Andrew Brandolin held the honour of the win, and as they did at Mordialloc, scored six shots to clinch a 14-16 victory.
Two rinks drew 20 each, Mort Smith, Neville Hendrie, Sean McDonald and Ken Cobden and Shane Hardy, Mark Paton, Larry Simpson and Zak Storm, while Geoff Ampt, John Nunan, Shannon Micallef and Shane Collins went down 16-17.
Result: Hampton Park (1) 14-80 d Mordialloc (1) 4-73.
Division 4 played Keysborough with an eye on promotion to Division 3, and were successful.
Heather Naismith, Richard Pallett, Rob Woff and Ron Beverly were winners, 30-20, while Chris Barnes, Jen Sherry, Stan Hatch and Peter Hayden won 29-18, and Aaron Ottaway, Tracey Storm, Denise Eastick and Helen Lambert won 23-21.Vince Kovacic, Jim Westwell, Ellen Smith and Geoff Ladner went down 14-22.
Result: Hampton Park (2) 16-96 d Keysborough (2) 2-81.
Both teams then had to front up on Sunday for the next round of finals.
SUNDAY
HAMPTON Park bowlers rewrote their own history again with Saturday’s wins when both Division 2 and Division 4 won their sectional finals.
Playing at Cranbourne, Division 2 had an all too expected last man standing fight against nearest rival Narre Warren, and the result was an 11-shot win to the Parkers.
Steve Barnes, Chris Hendrie, Andrew Brandolin and Warwick Hardy led the way with a strong 25-11 win, while Geoff Ampt, John Nunan, Shannon Micallef and Shane Collins fought hard to win 28-21. Mort Smith, Neville hendrie, Sean McDonald and Ken Cobden fought back from 0-9 down after five ends, and with a five on the last end won 24-23. While Shane Hardy, Mark Paton, Larry Simpson and Zak Storm were down 1-16 after eight ends, but fought back only to lose 16-27.
Result: Hampton Park (1) 93 d Narre Warren 82.
Division 4 played at Burden Park against Chadstone and were just as successful. The scoring was led by Chris Barnes, Jen Sherry, Stan Hatch and Peter Hayden, who led 14-1 after the first 12 ends to win 23-10. Aaron Ottaway, Tracey Storm, Denise Eastick and Helen Lambert won 17-14 while Heather Naismith, Richard Pallet, Rob Woff and Ron Beverly won 18-16. Vince Kovacic, Jim Westwell, Ellen Smith and Geoff Ladner lost 15-19.
Result: Hampton Park (2) 73 d Chadstone (1) 59.
Both teams are now promoted to their next Divisions.
MIDWEEK
THE season of Hampton Park’s midweek Division 1 team came to a sudden halt on Tuesday.
Playing at home against Clayton, the Parkers were no match for the other finalist. Geoff Ladner, Chris Hendrie, Andrew Brandolin and Ellen Smith were the only winning rink, 21-18. While Jim Westwell, Shane Collins, Peter Hayden and Neville Hendrie lost 14-24 and Geoff Ampt, Ann Westwell, Helen Lambert and Denise Eastick lost 15-27.
Result: Clayton (2) 14-69 d Hampton Park (1) 2-50.
