Top division drops the ball

NARRE WARREN BOWLS
THE Saturday Division 2 pennant team was away to Pakenham in round 18 and – after a day the club would rather put behind them – had a disastrous day for a side in the four.
They did not cover themselves with glory in the last game before the finals and went down by 49 shots. A big improvement will be needed next week in the knock-out semi-final.
Karen Murray, Keith Mark, Wilma Stevenson, Rod Lane 20/13. Wilma Haringsma, Reg Young, Eric Sydenham, Iain Stevenson 13/29. Janis Dukats, Alan Dawson, Erik Luyters, Neville Bradley 16/30. Ernesto Vergara, Carl Lapham, Andy Kidd, Jimmy Millar 9/35.
Division 3 at home to Dandenong Club were given a lesson by a much superior side, showing why they are ladder leaders, with all rinks going down a drubbing by 48 shots 59/107
The side faces relegation next season – a disappointing end to the season.
Peter Lister, Mathew Fitt, Stan Robinson, Norm Hosmer 15/22. Luka Klarica, Gail Bowman, Kerry Davis, John Heathcote 13/37. Phil Howard, Ray Pigdon, Geoff Miller, Reg Johnstone 14/29. Michael Graham, Fred Fox, Arthur Scheurer, Greg Cowan 17/19.
Division 7 played on the treacherous Ferntree Gully carpet and handled the green without any problems, proving why they have been on top of the ladder for most of the season – with all rinks up – and running out winners by 51 shots 113/62.
A great lead-up to a home final next week against Pakenham.
The side has worked hard this season and one more win will be the icing on the cake.
Janice Moran, Ethel VanMaanen, Micki Horton 25/13. Len O’Brien, Steve Boyd, Graham Dodd, John Green 27/10. Glen Cadman, Jim Sheahan, Rick Hoare, Brian Fraser 25/17. Arthur Fitt, Travis Moore, Peter Castricum, Damian Brick 26/22.
Division 8 played at home to Clayton and with a big finish – both rinks up – for a 27-shot win.
It has been a tough season for the number four side with changes every week but the guys have been valiant in their endeavours, and what they may have lacked in skill they more than made up with their enthusiasm.
Thanks to all the members that played in the side over the year for their commitment to the club.
Margo Worsley, Leo McGeary, Jack Norman, Andy Tobler 28/10. Darren Moore, Rudi Pompe, Peter Rouse, Peter Pater 23/14.
In round 18 of Tuesday pennant, Division 1 finished the season with a good win over Cranbourne at home by 18 shots, 61/43.
A good finish to end the season, but disappointing in finishing seventh on the ladder with seven wins and nine losses – but safe in Division 1 and the side can look forward to improving their position next season.
Truus Heneman, Keith Mark, Judy Naughton, Ian Brotherton 24/11. Wilma Haringsma, Enid Gibb, Jimmy Millar, Eric Sydenham 25/12. Andy Kidd, Wilma Stevenson, Iain Stevenson, Rod Lane 12/22.
Division 3 played on the fast carpet at Ferntree Gully, a surface that brings frustration to most visiting clubs.
The side was not disgraced. Despite all rinks losing by the margin of 14 shots, it was not a disaster as the side fought it out after being well down at the lunch break.
The side had a good season finishing fourth and will play Mulgrave in a knockout semi-final next Tuesday at Mulgrave.
Arthur Fitt, Janice Moran, Ethel VanMaanen, Micki Horton 15/20. Sep VanMaanen, Peter Pater, Carl Lapham, Ray Pigdon 14/22. Len O’Brien, Andy Tobler, Gary Gilchrist, John Green 21/22.
