HAMPTON PARK BOWLS

IT’S the business end of the bowling season – finals time.
Three Hampton Park teams will be involved, the midweek Division 1 along with the Saturday Division 2 and Division 4 teams. With all three teams finishing either first or second on their ladders, all will have home finals on the first day.
Hampton Park’s Division 1 midweek team had two victories this week, firstly beating Vermont South, and secondly after Mulgrave CC beat second placed Clayton setting up a home final. At Vermont South, Jim Westwell, Shane Collins, Peter Hayden and Neville Hendrie led from the front all day and won 25-10. Geoff Ampt, Ann Westwell, Helen Lambert and Denise Eastick also led all day to win 21-15. While Geoff Ladner, Chris Hendrie, Andrew Brandolin and Ellen Smith dropped a shot on the last bowl of the day to lose 18-19.
Result: Hampton Park (1) 14-64 d Vermont South (3) 2-44.
Division 2 at home suffered another loss and will be relegated to Division 3 next season. At home against Berwick, Brian Diaper, Dot Carr, Gwen Clough and Bob Nicol won 23-19, while Heather Naismith, June Damon, Keith Damon and Rob Woff lost 11-24 and Rhonda Diaper, Jen Sherry, Marion Battaglia and Ray Wood were narrowly beaten 18-20.
Result: Berwick (3) 14-63 d Hampton Park (2) 2-52.
Saturday Division 2 pennant saw more unusual results from the top-four teams. Hampton Park (first) lost to Burden Park, and Narre Warren (third) lost to Pakenham, but positions stayed the same. At Burden Park Hampton Park’s only winning rink was Geoff Ampt, John Nunan, Shannon Micallef and Shane Collins (23-10). Steve Barnes, Chris Hendrie, Andrew Brandolin and Warwick Hardy lost 16-24, Shane Hardy, Mark Paton, Ian Bartlett and Zak Storm lost 16-20 and Neville Hendrie, Larry Simpson, Sean McDonald and Ken Cobden lost 20-24.
Burden Park (2) 16-78 d Hampton Park (1) 2-75.
Division 4 maintained second place on the ladder with a strong win over Dandenong RSL Recreation at Pound Road. John Wright, Jen Sherry, Stan Hatch and Peter Hayden dropped 13 shots after the break to scrape home with 22-17 win. Aaron Ottaway, Tracey Storm, Denise Eastick and Helen Lambert won 25-14 while Heather Naismith, Richard Pallett, Mort Smith and Ron Beverly won 23-13. Vince Kovacic, Jim Westwell, Ellen Smith and Geoff Ladner just lost 17-21.
Hampton Park (2) 16-87 d Dandenong RSL/Rec 2-65.
Division 6 moved away from relegation with a good win against SOC at Hampton Park. Gerry Cox, Rudi Oost, Bob Nicol and Ian Kitt won 25-12, Jamie Lehman, Keith Damon, Janice Collins and Gavin Wilson won 17-10 while Wayne Grimsey, Marion Battaglia, Brian Diaper and Ray Wood won 23-13. Lou Soligo, Jos van Hout, Bill Webb and Craig Richards lost 13-19.
