Cranny set for relegation

CRANBOURNE BOWLS
AFTER many years playing in Division 1 metropolitan, Cranbourne is now a certainty to be relegated to Division 2 after a devastating loss to MCC on Saturday.
Now 18 points behind the 8th side on the ladder Armadale (9th and 10th sides are relegated), mathematically Cranbourne could sneak in but that seems highly unlikely as they would have to win on all four rinks to pick up 18 points against bottom-of-the-ladder rivals Pakenham and they would then need Armadale to lose on all four rinks against top-of-the-ladder leader Mulgrave. And even if that happens, they still have to make up the 33-shot difference deficit if both sides finish with 112 points each.
Division 2 had a good win at home against Burden Park to give it the same hope as the division 3 and 4 sides who simply need to win next week or face the prospect of relegation.
Division 7 despite a rare loss remain 2nd on the ladder and still a chance to finish on top.
Meanwhile, in the midweek competition, the Division 1 ladies side also had a rare loss but remain on top of the ladder.
Division 1
Cranbourne were crushed by 23 shots to MCC and lost on all four rinks. Steve “Krusty” Bentley said after the game “we kept with them up to the half way break, and within a few shots but they got the better of us after that and despite our best efforts the harder we tried the worse we got”.
Next week is the final game of the season played at home against Pakenham and the club is expecting a good crowd to come along and support the side. Results: – Cranbourne Div (1) 60 lost to MCC (1) 83 (R. Travica 12/24, L. Quigg 16/17, M. Bland 17/26, and S. Arthur 15/16).
Division 2
Cranbourne had a 12 shot victory over Burden Park to give it some hope of avoiding relegation from division 2. Rob Reid and his team of Ken Fulton, Barbara Fulton and Lyn Wood played well to win by 12 shots. Results: – Cranbourne 82 defeated Burden park 70 (G. Farrington 18/22, M. Boltong 17/21, R. Reid 24/12 and M. Stevens 23/15)
Division 3
John Mulder and his team of Griffiths, Dunn and Wilson had a good 11 shot win but the side went down overall by 14 shots against Berwick. Results: – Cranbourne 66 were defeated by Berwick 80 (J. Mulder 25/11, N. Fell 12/20, S. Raiti 9/28 and P. De Lisle 20/18)
