WITH backpacks bigger than their bodies and shoe laces tied tight, this past week was a big step for many young ones throughout the City of Casey.
It was also a memorable week for many mums and dads, as hundreds of children set off on their first day of primary school.
The News photographers were there to capture the memorable moments at many of the municipality’s schools, including Tooradin Primary School, Coral Park Primary School and Cranbourne West Primary School.
Tooradin and Coral Park were the first cabs off the rank and welcomed their new and excited pupils on Thursday 29 January.
The boys and girls got to know their new classmates and most importantly, inspected the new playground.
Cranbourne West did things a little differently and welcomed its girls on Thursday, followed by the boys on Friday.
Tooradin primary School welcomed 48 new Preps, and Early Years co-ordinator at the school Rachel Davies said the new pupils settled in well.
“With only a few tears and most of those were from the parents,“ she said.
Buddied up with the senior children at the school, Ms Davies put the easy start down to an important program at Tooradin.“A large part of the smooth start to the Preps first day at school was due to Tooradin Primary School’s Learning Links,“ she said.
The pre-prep operation runs during the fourth term in the year before they start and helps ease parents and children into the school community.
