Parker’s loss a Clayton win

HAMPTON PARK BOWLS

HAMPTON Park started the second round of pennant with a draw and a loss.
Division 1 at home against Clayton, drew on shots but lost two rinks. This counts as a Parker’s loss on the Premiership ladder. Geoff Ampt, Ann Westwell, Helen Lambert and Denise Eastick led all day to win by 17 shots (26-9) but Heather Naismith, Chris Hendrie, Andrew Brandolin and Ellen Smith lost 15-25 while Dot Carr, Jim Westwell, Shane Collins and Neville Hendrie lost 17-24.
Results: Clayton (2) 9-58 d Hampton Park (1) 7-58.
Division 2 played at Keysborough for another close loss. Brian Diaper, Kaye Goold, Gwen Clough and Bob Nicol was the best rink, winning 23-19, but Geri Graafsma, Margaret Baker, Ray Wood and Ian Bartlett lost 17-21 and Rhonda Diaper, June Damon, Marion Battaglia and John Nunan lost 19-27.
Results: Keysborough (2) 14-67 d Hampton Park (2) 2-59.
Saturday brought new challengers for Hampton Park, especially in Divisions 2 and 4. Both teams played the top of the ladder in their divisions, Mulgrave Country Club.
Division 2 at home had a hard fight all day and finally won by 14 shots. Steve Barnes, Chris Hendrie, Andrew Brandolin and Warwick Hardy lost 16-24, and Mort Smith, Neville Hendrie, Seam McDonald and Ken Cobden were unlucky to lose 14-15. Geoff Ampt, John Nunan, Shannon Micallef and Shane Collins were in front for most of the day for a close win 16-12, while the main scoreboard was controlled by Shane Hardy, Mark Paton, Ian Bartlett and Zak Storm who won easily 30-11.
Results: Hampton Park (1) 14-76 d Mulgrave CC (2) 4-62.
Meanwhile Division 4 travelled to Mulgrave CC for an even closer win. Heather Naismith, Jim Westwell, Rob Woff and Geoff Ladner won 21-16, and Richard Pallet, Jos Van Hout, Stan Hatch and Larry Simpson won 21-14. Chris Barnes, Ellen Smith, Lionel Williams and Peter Hayden were 19 shots down mid-game and stormed home for a disappointing loss 21-22 while Aaron Ottaway, John Wright, Denise Eastick and Helen Lambert lost 17-20.
Results: Hampton Park (2) 14-79 d Mulgrave CC (5) 4-72.
Division 6 had another tough day on the tricky greens at Ferntree Gully, winning only one rink. Vince Kovacic, Marion Battalgia, Brian Diaper and Ray Wood won 21-16, while Gerry Cox, Trevor Harbright, Bob Nicol and Ian Kitt lost 18-22. However two nightmare games confronted Lou Soligo, Craig Richards, Kaye Goold and Bill Webb, who lost 6-40, and Jen Sherry, Janice Collins, Keith Damon and Bill Holden who lost 9-36.
Results: Ferntree Gully (4) 16-114 d Hampton Park (3) 2-54.
Division 8 seem to be closer to their first playing win, despite losing to Cardinia waters. With the help of two Cardinia Waters subs to make the numbers in the game until the tea break. Les Unwin, B. Potter (sub), Bruce Pointon and Ron Beverly won 17-15, but Keith McCarthy, Margaret Baker, M. Stephenson (sub) and Rudi Oost fell away late in the game to lost 12-24.
Results: Cardinia Waters (2) 12-39 d Hampton Park (4) 2-29.
