CRANBOURNE BOWLS

NOBODY told the Cranbourne (3) side that they could not pull off the upset of the year with second on the ladder Noble Park… especially on their home turf. But they did do just that. With three rinks up Cranbourne defeated Noble Park by 15 shots, and amazingly each rink scored exactly the same number of shots – 19 to total 76.
Club legend and skip Stan Burnett could not wait to get back to the clubrooms with the good news. And the club certainly needed some good news with Division 1, 2 and 4 sides all going down on the day.
DIVISION 1
Steve Arthur was bolstered with the addition of the two superstars, Lynne Wood and Lyn Whalley and they did not let him down with teammate Ian Barrenger, they went on to win by 12 shots. But the three other rinks could not add any further support and they went down finally to Pakenham by 10 shots.
Result: Pakenham 85 d Cranbourne (1) 75 (R. Travica 17/28, L. Quigg 17/23, M. Bland 13/18, S. Arthur 28/16).
Next Week: Cranbourne plays Armadale away.
DIVISION 2
Maree Taylor continues to play great lead bowls to help set up a six-point win for skip Neil Fell and his team of John Stanley and Graeme Wood. Matt Boltong and his team fought hard for a draw but the other two rinks both lost resulting in Cranny going down by 28 shots against ladder leaders Mulgrave.
Result: Mulgrave CC 95 d Cranbourne 67 (N. Fell 24/18, M. Boltong 17/17, K. Fulton 11/36. G. Hunt 15/24).
DIVISION 3
Amazingly every rink scored 19 shots each to total 76 and defeat second ladder leader Noble Park by 15 shots. Club Legend, Stan Burnett commented on the performance; “It was a great result against an inform Noble Park side, three rinks up recording good wins and a good fight back by John Mulder and his rink guaranteed an upset win which was a great result for our club.”
Result: Cranbourne 76 (J. Mulder 19/23, S. Burnett 19/13, K. Bowler 19/14, T. Whalley 19/11) d Noble Park 61.
DIVISION 4
Rising star bowler David Brown was called up to play against Keysborough and performed well for his skip Ray Tormey and his team of Barry Chapman and John Forsythe to win by 10 shots. But with little support from the remaining three rinks they wenr down by 45 shots.
Result: Keysborough 106 d Cranbourne 61 (C. Wright 9/35, D. O’Reilly 13/29, R. Tormey 23/13, T. De Pradines 16/29).
