HAMPTON PARK BOWLS

ON Thursday Denise Eastick and Helen Lambert won the Casey District Ladies’ Pairs title after defeating team-mates Chris Hendrie and Ellen Smith at Cranbourne RSL.
Coming to the last end, and even then possibly the last bowl, Denise and Helen held a five-shot advantage before Chris and Ellen rallied, but this measure only gave them four shots allowing Denise and Helen to win by one shot, 20/19.
TUESDAY
The week started well for Hampton Park with both Tuesday teams having wins.
Division 1 were at home to Vermont South and had a battle to the end, to win by 11 shots.
Scores were close for skip Ellen Smith and her team of Heather Naismith, Chris Hendrie and Andrew Brandolin, until the lunch break. After lunch they scored 16 shots to four to win 30/17. Geoff Ampt, Ann Westwell, Helen Lambert and Denise Eastick started slowly but finished strong to win 26/20 while Dot Carr, Peter Hayden, Shane Collins and Neville Hendrie lost 17/25.
Result: Hampton Park (2) 14-73 d Vermont South (3) 2-62.
Division 2 played at Berwick for a much deserved second win for the season.
Geri Graafsma, Margaret Baker, Ray Wood and skip Ian Bartlett controlled the day in their 30/14 win. It took their opponents until the 17th end to reach double figures. Rhonda Diaper, June Damon, Marion Battaglia and John Nunan lost a close one, 16/18, while Jen Sherry, Keith Damon, Gwen Clough and Rob Woff lost 16/23.
Result: Hampton Park (2) 12-62 d Berwick (3) 4-55.
Saturday’s pennant teams had a mixed day, with Division 2 and Division 6, placing their final four places in trouble, and Division 4 winning well against the top team, Chadstone.
At Cranbourne RSL, Division 1 could not handle the new green and opposition, losing by 23 shots.
Geoff Ampt, John Nunan, Shannon Micallef and Shane Collins won 28/21, but Mort Smith, Neville Hendrie, Sean McDonald and Ken Cobden lost the last two ends and the game 18/21. Steve Barnes, Chris Hendrie, Andrew Brandolin and Warwick Hardy lost 17/20, while Shane Hardy, Mark Paton, Peter Hayden and Zak Storm lost in a nightmare 12/46.
Results: Cranbourne RSL (1) 16-108 d Hampton Park (1) 2-75.
At Hampton Park Division 4 had a good 31-shot win over the top-of-the-ladder Chadstone.
Chris Barnes, Ellen Smith, Ian Bartlett and Larry Simpson led all day to win 24/9. Stan Hatch, Tracey Storm, Denise Eastick and Helen Lambert won 19/11, and Heather Naismith, John Wright, Geoff Ladner and Rob Woff also won 29/15. Ron Beverly, Richard Pallet, Jos Van Hout, and Jim Westwell went down 13/19.
Result: Hampton Park (2) 16-85 d Chadstone (1) 2-54.
Division 6 playing at home managed to lose all rinks. Jen Sherry, Janice Collins, Craig Richards and Bill Holden came closest, making up six shots in the last two ends but still lost 20/21. Vince Kovacic, Marion Battaglia, Brian Diaper and Ray Wood lost by three, 18/21, Aaron Ottaway, Gavin Wilson, Kaye Goold and Lionel Williams lost 13/20 while Gerry Cox, Trevor Harbright, Bob Nicol and Ian Kitt, lost 15/20.
Results: Pakenham (3) 18-82 d Hampton Park (3) 0-66.
Division 8 needed two substitutes from opponents Noble Park to make up their numbers, but they also lost. Les Unwin (sub), Ann Westwell and Keith Demon won 23/14, but Mavis Kelly (sub), Rudi Oost and Lou Soligo went down 6/37.
Result: Noble Park (4) 12-51 d Hampton Park (4)2-29.
