Link for a connection

Some of your readers have asked why the City of Casey Council is advocating for the East/West Link when there are also other road priorities locally in Casey.
Firstly, I would like to assure our residents that council is advocating in this state election campaign for a range of important priorities, and I am delighted to announce that our advocacy on behalf of our residents has been extremely successful.
Our number one advocacy priority was the duplication of Thompsons Road.
I am thrilled that the Napthine Liberal Government has now pledged $310 million to duplicate Thompsons Road and construct a grade separated intersection with the Western Port Highway, to remove the notorious roundabout at Western Port Highway/Thompsons Road.
This is a huge win for all residents throughout Casey and Melbourne’s outer south-east.
Thompsons Road is a main east-west connection from Casey to the west, with most sections only one lane.
It is currently a major bottleneck affecting connections between Casey and the Monash Freeway corridor and links to EastLink, Mornington Peninsula and Hastings regions.
Equally also, the duplication and grade separated intersection will provide an alternative to the congested Monash Freeway by providing a high quality connection to EastLink and will take vehicles off local roads.
It will help commuting traffic from Cranbourne and Cranbourne North by providing a direct link to EastLink and will help areas like Endeavour Hills, Narre Warren and Berwick by removing this commuting traffic from the Hallam Bypass and Monash Freeway/South Gippsland Freeway merge.
We will also continue to advocate for East/West Link.
The critical piece of infrastructure will take further pressure off the Monash Freeway and the Princess Highway, making commuting even easier for local residents.
The City of Casey is proud that its advocacy campaign is working.
We will continue to work hard in this area for the benefit of all our residents.
Cr Sam Aziz,
Election Advocacy Spokesperson,
City of Casey.
