HAMPTON PARK BOWLS
HAMPTON Park bowlers had a mixed tournament day, and in every weather condition available.
At Noble Park Division 1 had to contend with everything from sunshine to heavy showers and wind. But it did not deter the team and they won overall two-rinks up. S. Collins, J. Westwell, A. Brandolin and E. Smith set up the win with a 33-8 win – they only lost six ends. G. Ladner, A. Westwell, N. Hendrie and C. Hendrie won 20-16. While G. Ampt, P. Hayden, D. Eastick and H. Lambert could only win six ends and lost 9-23.
Hampton Park (1) 14-62 d Noble Park (1) 2-47
Division 2 was at home to Ferntree Gully and had another disappointing loss. J. Sherry, H. Naismith, M. Battaglia and B. Nicol won 19-18, but G. Graafsma, J. Damon, K. Goold and R. Woff lost 16-22. D. Carr, B. Diaper, B. Diaper and K. Damon also had a bad day losing 12-28.
Ferntree Gully (3) 14-68 d Hampton Park (2) 2-47
On Saturday Hampton Park Division 2 host Mordialloc, and on a day where bowlers spent almost as much time dodging rain and hail as bowling, Hampton Park prevailed.
The biggest winners were S. Barnes, C. Hendrie, A. Brandolin and W. Hardy 30-18. The other winning rink was G. Ampt, J. Nunan, S. Micallef and S. Collins 19-11. S. Hardy, M. Paton, P. Hayden and Z. Storm came back from an 11-shot deficit to lose 16-20, while M. Smith, N. Hendrie, S. McDonald and K. Cobden were unlucky to lose 18-19.
Hampton Park (1) 14-83 d Mordialloc 4-68
Division 4 was at Murrumbeena, and suffered a one-shot loss. C. Barnes, M. Battaglia, I. Bartlett and L. Simpson had a good win 27-14, and A. Ottaway, T. Storm, D. Eastick and H. Lambert also won, 21-13. But V. Kovacic, H. Naismith, G. Ladner and R. Woff lost 19-22 while R. Pallett, E. Smith, J. Westwell and R. Beverly had a bad day losing 7-26.
Murrumbeena 14-75 d Hampton Park (2) 4-74
Division 6 battled Vermont South at Hampton Park, and had a good win. Best rink was L. Soligo, C. Richards, B. Diaper and R. Wood, winning 32-13. L. Unwin, J. Wright, K. Goold and J. Van Hout won 25-18. J. Sherry, J. Collins, K. Damon while B. Holden won 17-12, and G. Cox, R. Diaper, B. Nicol and I. Kitt won 17-14.
Hampton Park (3) 18-91 d Vermont South (5) 0- 47.
Sadly the club did not have enough players for the Division-8 team and had to forfeit the game – so any new bowlers would be welcomed.
Friday was the finals of the Peninsular Region over-60s singles and pairs at Frankston RSL.
Hampton Park’s Geoff Ampt was the Casey District’s men’s singles representative. In his first game he bowled well but without any luck and was well beaten 7-21 by his Mornington Civic opponent. In the second game his luck returned and in a hard, close game Geoff won 21-20.
Casey’s other representative was Narre warren’s Wilma Stevenson in the Women’s over-60s. She also lost her first game and won her second game 21-20.
Neither player progressed to Metropolitan rounds of the competition.
