Walk in support of Daniel

By BRIDGET SCOTT

RETAILERS and local shoppers from Cranbourne turned out in support of a nation-wide cause last Friday.
The Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre held a Walk for Daniel in honour of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. The foundation, named after a young boy who went missing, aims to raise awareness around safety for children.
Marketing Assistant at the shopping centre Lauren Cottrill said management decided to run this event for the first time at the Cranbourne centre as part of the national day for Daniel.
“The awareness program is organised by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation,” she said.
“It’s an educational program devoted to awareness.”
The event on Friday played host to both fictional and non-fictional superheros including Wonder Woman and local police and CFA members.
Ms Cottrill said the idea was to “get the community involved and aware.”
The official website of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation notes that it sees its official role as helping educators and parents in the education of children about their personal safety.
Participants in Friday’s event walked the perimeter of the shopping centre and police and CFA crews were there to address any questions or concerns regarding child safety.
Ms Cottrill said the day was more for awareness of the cause.
“We don’t encourage the fund-raising side of it, it’s more for awareness,” she said.“It’s about what’s out there and what can be done.”
“We hope everyone got something out of it.”
