Hopes crumble on synthetic green

CRANBOURNE BOWLS

ON SATURDAY in trying conditions, the Cranbourne Division-1 side travelled to Glen Waverley but could not match it with the opposition on a tricky synthetic green and crumbled yet again this time to lose by 19 shots.
“Another inconsistent performance has cost us an opportunity to move up the ladder in Division 1,” said head coach Steve Arthur after the game.
“Added to that the four other division sides also registered losses for the day, which means some soul searching is needed during the week.
“Next week we are at home to Kingsbury and we are all looking for improved performances from all our Cranbourne teams,” he said.
Division 1
Once again Ray Travica and his team were the big winners of the day, 10-shots up. Ray was once again pleased with his team of Blyth, Gascoigne and Lyfield, claiming that they bowled very consistently and adjusted well to the changing weather conditions all day.
Skip Steve Arthur and his team had a narrow two-shot loss while Peter Colthup and his team went down by six-shots and Skip Lyn Quigg and team had a day they would prefer to forget.
Division 2
Cranbourne Played Clayton at home to record a 28-shot loss with only one winning team skipped by Gary Farrington that managed a win by six shots.
“I was very pleased with my team, especially with the efforts of Lynne Wood and Lyn Whalley who played some great bowls putting pressure on the opposition from the start of each end that made my job a lot easier against strong opposition,” Farrington said.
Division 3
Cranbourne played Mt Waverley also at home but were soundly defeated on all rinks by 39 shots.
Division 4
Cranbourne’s Division 4 side played away against Dandenong RSL to lose narrowly by six-and-a-half shots. A win by five shots from Cheryl Wright and her team of Kevin Smith, Joyce Pearce and Brenda De lisle along with a half-point win to Keith Bowler and his team of Len Warner and John Gardner was some consolation.
Division 7
Division 7 travelled to Oakleigh to lose by 27 shots despite a great performance by Skip Scott De Piazza and his team of Ian Badger and Tony Scanton who won by 11 shots.
