Foresight lacking

I WISH to refer to Ms Choudhry’s article (Islam Answers Back, News, 9 October).
Ms Choudhry is perfectly right to say that Islam is a religion of peace, empathy, love and compassion.
However, what she and some other people often seem to forget is that actions speak louder than words.
Ms Choudhry is totally wrong in her reply to Mr Woolf who has got all his information correct, though.
Instead of blaming media reports, Ms Choudhry should start watching the news on several channels and read many different newspapers.
Only then will she be able to understand what is happening in the world today.
The world is at war. Why? Africa is in turmoil. Why? Who are those responsible for the killings, massacres, atrocities and other tragic events that are taking place in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria and elsewhere, where even mosques have been set on fire and completely destroyed.
We would like to know what Ms Choudhry thinks about the abduction and humiliation of more than 200 schoolgirls by the jihadist group of Boko Haram?
The other day I had a strange feeling as if I was no longer living in Australia.
I was shocked to hear that Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Ken Lay had warned defence force cadets not to wear their uniforms in public.
That same warning was also given to customs, ambulance and fire services. Could Ms Choudhry explain the reason for the Chief Commissioner’s decision?
The rights and freedoms of born Australian citizens are being sacrificed, because of whom, Ms Choudhry?
Still, what I consider most disappointing is the attitude of some MPs and political party leaders to measures taken by the government in order to ensure the safety and security of the country.
These people seem to be living in the past and lacking vision, foresight, understanding and wisdom.
Australian values, religion, culture and traditions are under threat.
If the government doesn’t react firmly, with the support of the opposition, in 20 years’ time Australia will find itself in a situation worse than what is being seen in many countries around the world.
Better not to be wise after the event!
Finally, as a migrant myself, I invite Ms Choudhry and all other migrants of all nationalities to join together, in order to keep Australia a better place to live.
